Iraklion is the largest city in Crete and the capital of the island. It is a busy town with a few interesting buildings dating back to the Venetian period. The famous Minoan palace of Knossos is located just a few kilometers from the town center. The Archeological museum of Iraklion is the second main museum in Greece, it houses most of the artifacts found on the various minoan sites in Crete.
